What types of fees are there? |
*Please note - if you are deemed to be a fully supported resident by the Commonwealth Government, the only fee that you will be asked to pay is the basic daily care fee. This fee is around 85% of the full aged pension. |
You may be asked to pay one or more of the following fees in residential aged care: - A basic daily care fee: this covers care and services cost such as nursing, meals and laundry. For some people this is the only fee they are required to pay.

A means-tested care fee: this is an additional contribution towards the cost of care that some people may be required to pay. The Department of Health will work out if you are required to pay this fee based on an assessment of your income and assets, and will advise you of the amount.

An accommodation payment: this is for your accommodation in the aged care home. Some people will have their accommodation costs met in full or in part by the Australian Government, while others will need to pay the accommodation price agreed with the aged care home. The Department of Health will advise you which applies to you based on an assessment of your income and assets.

Fees for extra or additional optional services: additional fees may apply if you choose a higher standard of accommodation or additional services. These vary from home to home. Your aged care provider can provide you with details of these services and the fees that apply.

The basic definition of a fully supported resident is a person on the full age pension with less than $46,000 in assets.

The Myagedcare.gov website provides a tool for you to be able to calculate an estimate of what this fee will be. However only a financial planner or Centrelink will be able to provide you with the actual amounts.

Pricing as at 1st August 2025 Residents can choose from a selection of payment options in the form of a Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD), Daily Accommodation Payments (DAP) or a combination of both. Details on payment options are contained in the Fees and Charges schedule below.
